Michael is responsible for the management of the technical team within QM Costs.

The team provide advice for both simple and complex cases from a broad client base of insurers, large organisations, public bodies and central government clients.

In addition to managing the team, Michael also manages his own caseload of complex instructions.

Michael plays an active role in the QM Costs Client Care Programme, and ensuring continual development of service and delivery in line with client feedback.

He is knowledgeable on all new developments within costs law, and in addition to internal training sessions, Michael is regularly asked to provide regular training and updates to clients.


Michael has extensive experience in handling cost cases across a number of specialisms including include clinical negligence, RTA, PL, EL, judicial review and commercial claims.

He has been heavily involved in the technical challenges to the enforceability of agreements between claimants and claimant’s solicitors. Most notably he was successful in striking out the Law Society’s endorsed scheme ‘Accident Line Protect’ for breach of the CFA regulations (Goldthorpe v Dodd, Oldham County Court- January 2007 and McFayden v Liverpool City Council -May 2007) and represented an insurer client in the Court of Appeal on the Accident Line Protect test cases.

Michael has over 10 years’ experience in the costs industry including in advocacy, handling appeals, advocacy, preparing skeleton arguments, attending directions and providing expert advice to clients.
